The Frog Hollow Neighborhood Revitalization Zone Committee
The Frog Hollow Neighborhood Revitalization Zone Committee is a quasi-municipal body concerned with the revitalization of the Frog Hollow Neighborhood Revitalization Zone. The Committee’s primary focus is on the blighted and abandoned buildings within the neighborhood revitalization zone (NRZ), but the Committee also addresses those problems that are created by the presence of those deteriorated properties within the NRZ.
The Committee receives its mandate from the state and the city, and it must meet certain legal obligations under that mandate. As such, the Committee is a public body; its meetings, its activities, and its records are all open to the public, and the Committee must comply with the Freedom of Information Act.
All of the members of the Committee are volunteers who are stakeholders in the NRZ. A majority of the members of the Committee are residents of the NRZ, and the remaining members represent businesses, non-profit organizations, and churches.
The Committee originally formed in August 2000 in order to take advantage of the opportunity the NRZ offered to take a more active role in determining the course of development within the NRZ. The Committee designed a strategic plan for the NRZ, and the Committee completed its draft of the strategic plan and approved it at a public hearing in September 2002. It then passed the plan along to the City for adoption by the Court of Common Council. Subsequently, the Committee undertook a sweeping amendment of its strategic plan in April 2006, and the new strategic plan is available online at this web site.
In February 2009, the North Frog Hollow NRZ Committee and the Frog Hollow South NRZ Committee merged to form the Frog Hollow NRZ Committee. This merger allowed the two committees to marshal their various resources more effectively and over a broader area within the City of Hartford. A map of the Frog Hollow NRZ is available on this web site.
The Committee meets each month on the fourth Thursday at 5:00 PM, except during November and December, when it meets on the second Thursday. The location of its meetings varies between the Aetna Center for Families (odd months) and the Lyceum (even months). Details on the Committee’s schedule of meetings is available on this web site. The schedule will be updated periodically, and any changes to the schedule will be posted on this site.
If you have any questions about the Committee or its proceedings, please feel free to contact any of its officers. Contact information for the officers is available on this web site.
